Through our affiliate company, American Institute of Timber Construction (AITC), we provide supervision & inspection services for structural glued-laminated timber manufacturers and certified fabricator members. AITC has a strong reputation in the industry for leadership and technical support. Glued-laminated timbers are considered a key component in mass timber construction, an innovation that is changing the way that tall buildings in the US are being designed and constructed. While mass timber construction is a relatively recent innovation in the US, glued laminated timbers have been successfully used in the U.S. since the mid-1930s and are the wood timber of choice where high strength, long spans, cost efficiency, and aesthetic beauty are important.

California Wildland Urban Interface is roughly defined as the zone where natural areas and development meet. The wildland urban interface (WUI) has gained increasing importance as more Americans build homes in rural settings adjacent to public lands. Since the development and implementation of the National Fire Plan, there has been a marked increase in reduction of hazardous fuels in the WUI on the edge of federal lands.
In 2008 California introduced new fire regulations for exterior features, such as siding and decking, for homes built in WUI areas. Starting in 2012, manufacturers of these exterior products are required to register their products in the Building Materials Listing program with California’s Office of the State Fire Marshall (OFSM). Products involved must be labeled and therefore, registered. With this required labeling, the products meet code and are acceptable in WUI areas. Compliance failure with this requirement could result in rejected products by building officials in California WUI areas.
West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau is registered with OSFM as an approved third-party quality control agency and can help you with the labeling requirements set by the OSFM to ensure acceptance of your products.

The West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau is an accredited third-party audit agency approved by the American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC) to certify individual manufacturers for the wood pellet program to insure quality standards and demonstrate compliance for wood burning materials.
The Pellet Fuels Institutes (PFI) implemented on November 8, 2011, the PFI Standards Program by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The New Source Performance Standard (MSPS) for residential wood heathers requires pellet stoves to burn pellets which are certified by the PFI. It also calls for a third-party compliance program with specifications for residential and commercial grade fuel. Manufacturers of PFI graded pellet fuels will be required to place labels on their packaging and the labels be graded as Premium, Standard, or Utility.
